Jenny and I at show

About Me

I have always loved reading, writing, and animals. When I was a kid, Mom used to fret over my imaginary friends and my invisible Lassie dog. I still have imaginary friends, but now I write mystery stories about them. I traded in the invisible dog for several real cats. Then, when I was in my early teens, my parents and I arrived home to find Mom’s cousin waiting for us on our porch. He had a horse and a pony and he had just lost the lease on the property he kept them on. Could he board them on our property? I pleaded and begged and my parents reluctantly agreed. That was the beginning of twenty-five years of horses.

My writing developed a fan following in high school. I wrote novels based on my favorite television shows. My “fans” passed the notebooks around during study hall and returned them to me with orders to write the next chapter. Eventually, I moved on to original fiction. But after graduation, life got in the way and writing fell to the side.

I have written bits and pieces all along, but a few years ago I rediscovered my love of writing fiction. I completed a romantic suspense novel that resides in a drawer in my spare room where it will never see the light of day again. But from that non-masterpiece, I learned a lot. My next novel was the amateur sleuth mystery Horse of a Different Color with my veterinarian protagonist, Jessie Cameron.

With Gemma

I have a groom’s license at Mountaineer Racetrack in West Virginia and I still ride every chance I get. I share my home and my life with my husband and my cat, Skye.

I am a member of Sisters in Crime, Mystery Writers of America, Pennwriters, and West Virginia Writers. My short fiction has been published online and “Signature in Blood” was named a finalist for a 2007 Derringer Award.  I have completed a second, and am beginning work on the third installment of the Jessie Cameron series.
